The Steeple Cabs (Freight Motors)

The museum owns 3 freight motors. Each one is unique. Freight motors were used to haul freight and/or maintenance cars along the streetcar or interurban lines. Many are also to referred to as steeple cab because of their design.

#254 25-ton GE Locomotive
It was equipped with Third Rail Shoes for use at the cooper mines as a trolley wire a pole would have been in the way.

#351 35-ton GE Locomotive from 1903
This locomotive was originally number .03 of the Missoula Street Railway, Montana Power Company purchased the street railway and then later the loco was sold to Anaconda Copper Co. and renumbered to L351

#401 40-ton Baldwin/Westinghouse Locomotive
It also served the cooper mines.  Holes in the side of the truck frames show the evidence of third rail shoes.
